2016 will see the long-awaited launch of a second national DAB multiplex which, for the first time will include DAB+ stations. Stations planning to launch on D2, will also be eligible to join Radioplayer. Here's everything you need to know
All services launching on D2 will require a DSPS licence from OFCOM to put their station on Radioplayer. As ever, only Ofcom-licenced stations can join us however part of joining D2 will include the issuing of a DSPS licence, so this is unlikely to be a problem. Once that is available then it will be possible to start the joining process. However to get ahead of the game, we always welcome early conversations with stations wishing to join us.
Stations joining Radioplayer will benefit from the web player used by the BBC and Commercial Radio together with inclusion in our mobile apps. We will also give you access to our hosted console service free for the first three months. Joining Radioplayer is a huge saving on building and testing players and apps of your own. Plus you'll enjoy all the other perks like availability on Apple Watch, Android wearable and in car with CarPlay and Android Auto.
For each station, we will offer you an introductory pricing for the first three months. Then, since most D2 stations will be in RAJAR, we will review your first audience figures and may need to revise our estimate up or down. We expect most stations will initially be placed in Band A or Band B. At that point, we will invoice for the remainder of the current membership year, then annually on your joining anniversary thereafter.
How to apply
Head over to the Station Application page and fill out the form. You'll then hear from us (at most, within a day or two) with the next steps.
